Under the leadership of Shri Mahant Devendra Das Ji Maharaj, the Sajjade Gaddi Nashin of Darbar Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj, Dehradun, a historic Nagar Parikrama was carried out on Tuesday. More than 25,000 Sangat devotees took part in the procession. The City Circumambulation (Nagar Parikramma) began at 7:30 a.m. from Shri Darbar Sahib.
Wherever the procession passed, the residents of Dehradun warmly welcomed the devotees with heartfelt showers of flowers. Throughout the route, people continued to chant slogans praising Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj and Shri Mahant Devendra Dass Ji Maharaj.
The historic Nagar Parikramma, organized on the third day of the birth anniversary celebrations of Siddhayogi Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj (the third day after Shri Jhande Ji hoisting), is eagerly awaited by the people of Dehradun throughout the year. At every point along the route, devotees were warmly received. Amid devotional singing and kirtan, Shri Mahant Devendra Das Ji Maharaj blessed the devotees.
Residents of Dehradun arranged holy food (langar), refreshments and elaborate welcome arrangements at various points along the route of the procession. The historic Nagar Parikramma started from Shri Darbar Sahib complex at 7:30 a.m. and passed through Kanwali Road, reaching Shri Guru Ram Rai Public School, Bindal, where chana, murmura, and jaggery were distributed as holy food (prasad). From there, the procession moved through Tilak Road, Tagore Villa, and Clock Tower (Ghantaghar).
When the procession reached the Clock Tower (Ghantaghar), it seemed as if everything had paused for a moment. To the beats of drums, the residents of Dehradun welcomed the Sangat devotees with great affection and showers of flowers. As devotees raised slogans in praise of Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj, local residents showered flowers upon them. Thousands of devotees gathered around the Clock Tower (Ghantaghar) and nearby areas to witness this remarkable sight.
Sangat Devotees remained immersed in the Nagar Parikramma while singing devotional hymns such as:
“Phool Barsandi Jawaan Rah Tere Phool Barsandi Jawaan…”,
“Kiven Kara Teri Seva Malka Kiven Kara…”,
“Je Baba Main Khud Hi Aawan…” and other bhajans expressing devotion to the Guru.
From Clock Tower (Ghantaghar), the procession moved through Paltan Bazaar, passed in front of Lakkhibagh Police Chowki, and entered Reetha Mandi. From there, the devotees and residents reached Shri Guru Ram Rai Public School, Bombay Bagh, where sugarcane was distributed as holy food (Prasad).
More than 25,000 Sangat devotees participated in the Nagar Parikramma. Afterward, the Sangat devotees visited the Samadhi Sthal of Shri Mahant Sahiban to offer their respects. The Nagar Parikramma concluded at 11:45 a.m. upon returning to Shri Darbar Sahib.
Throughout the entire route, local devotees arranged grand welcomes, holy food (langar), and refreshments across the city. Several distinguished citizens, political leaders, MLAs, and office bearers of various political parties also welcomed the devotees with flower showers.
At 5:00 p.m., the Masands and devotees were ceremonially bid farewell at Shri Darbar Sahib, and at 6:00 p.m., Khushi ka Prasad was distributed.
Devotees Moved by the Love, Affection, and Harmony of Dehradun Residents: Shri Mahant Devendra Das Ji Maharaj
Shri Mahant Devendra Das Ji Maharaj, the Sajjade Gaddi Nashin of Darbar Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj, Dehradun, said that a large number of Sangat devotees from across India and abroad come to Dehradun every year to participate in the historic Nagar Parikramma.
He said that the residents of Dehradun once again upheld the tradition of “Atithi Devo Bhava” (guests are angels) by welcoming the Sangat devotees with love, warmth, and goodwill. This heartfelt hospitality deeply moved the devotees, who expressed deep gratitude and appreciation toward the people of Dehradun.
Shri Maharaj Ji said that the love, respect, and affection with which Dehradun residents welcome the devotees each year is the reason why thousands of devotees eagerly come to the city annually. He added that this fair is not only a religious event but also a symbol of love, brotherhood, and harmony.
He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the residents of Dehradun for their love, respect, and service toward the devotees and for the successful organization of the Shri Jhande Ji Mela. He also extended special thanks to the police administration, district administration, municipal corporation, media personnel, and all city residents for their cooperation in making the event successful.
In his message, Shri Mahant Ji prayed that the blessings, grace, and love of Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj remain with everyone always.
Most Devotees from Other States Returned Home After the distribution of Khushi ka Prasad at Darbar Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj, most of the Sangat devotees who had come from other states departed for their hometowns on Tuesday.
